DARK Polygels/Iron Gels
Acid-free DARK Polygel and DARK Iron Gel for nail extensions, strengthening and repair. Polygel combines the strength of acrylic with the comfort of gel, while Iron Gel is a thick, jelly-like hard gel for sharp corners and length built in the air.
DARK Polygel and Iron Gel – Acid-Free Hard Gels for Nail Extensions
This collection brings together two DARK by Rior hard materials for nail extensions, strengthening and repair: DARK Polygel, a hybrid of gel and acrylic with a soft, dough-like consistency, and DARK Iron Gel, a thick, jelly-like gel that holds its shape for architectural work. Both are acid-free and TPO-free. For the full DARK system, visit the main DARK collection.
What Is Polygel?
Polygel combines the best of gel and acrylic systems. It has the strength and durability associated with acrylic, but works like a gel: it has no strong odor, does not run, and does not harden until it is cured in a lamp. That gives nail technicians time to shape the nail precisely without rushing. Polygel is used for extensions, strengthening natural nails, repairing broken nails and rebuilding shape.
DARK Polygel – Features
- Soft, dough-like consistency – easy to shape and does not run off the nail.
- Not sticky to the brush – does not clog the brush.
- Easy to file – does not clog drill bits.
- Strong but not brittle – holds up on any length and does not break at the corners.
- Works with lower and upper forms – suitable for classic extensions on forms as well as DARK Upper Forms.
DARK Iron Gel – Features
- Thick, jelly-like texture – holds its shape well, which makes it possible to build corners and extend length in the air.
- Sharp, durable corners – strong structure that keeps crisp corners without wearing down.
- Stable arch – maintains the apex and C-curve well.
Polygel or Iron Gel: Which One to Choose?
Polygel is the right choice for a comfortable, controlled material for extensions on lower or upper forms, strengthening and repairs, especially for technicians moving from acrylic to gel. Iron Gel suits work on classic forms where a thick gel is needed for sharp, architectural shapes with defined corners. Iron Gel is not recommended for upper forms.
Part of the DARK System
DARK Polygel and Iron Gel work together with DARK Scotch Base and DARK top coats. For self-leveling builder gels, see DARK builder gels.
Quality and Safety
All DARK hard materials are acid-free and TPO-free. Because they contain HEMA, they are intended for professional use only. DARK products are notified in the EU CPNP database, meet EU cosmetics requirements and are cruelty-free.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between polygel and builder gel?
Polygel has a thick, dough-like consistency that does not run, so it can be shaped freely before curing. Builder gels are more fluid and self-leveling, which suits techniques where the gel should settle into a smooth surface on its own.
What is the difference between polygel and acrylic?
Acrylic is a powder and liquid system that hardens in the air. Polygel is a single material that hardens only in a UV/LED lamp and has no strong monomer odor.
Can polygel be used to strengthen natural nails?
Yes. Besides extensions, polygel is widely used for strengthening natural nails and repairing broken or weak nails.
Can DARK Polygel be used with upper forms?
Yes. DARK Polygel works with both lower and upper forms. DARK Iron Gel is not recommended for upper forms.
Are DARK Polygel and Iron Gel TPO-free?
Yes. They do not contain TPO (Trimethylbenzoyl Diphenylphosphine Oxide), which is banned in the EU. The photoinitiator used is Ethyl Trimethylbenzoyl Phenylphosphinate (TPO-L), a different substance that is permitted.
Are DARK Polygel and Iron Gel acid-free?
Yes. All DARK hard materials are acid-free.
